Tree planting day as per Baloo:
We were asked by Henley@Heart to assist them in planting of 150 trees along St David’s Road.
Next year is the Cub’s 100th birthday celebration. I could not refuse this oppertunity as we as a Pack have to be involved with our community.
For the advancement badges in the Silver and Gold Wolf we have to do some form of community service, so when this came along I grabbed at it.
We as 1st Henley have been able to mark 1 of the 100 community projects that Cubs in South Africa are busy with for the Centenary.
Not only was 1st Henley involved but there were some grade 11 pupils from Henley High School that also assisted on the day and Henley@Heart also were there planting up a storm.
Henley@Heart supplied the trees, the holes were all dug and we went along and planted the trees. It was a very orchestrated day with everything planned to the tee.
As always safety is one of our main concerns, everybody involved wore reflective safety bibs. Thank you to the sponsors.
We as 1st Henley planted about 75 of the 150 trees and also helped to stake them up to keep them upright.
Serendipity Milk stall very kindly surprised us with a fruit juice for the hard working Cubs, Henley High Pupils and Henley@Heart. To top it off, the Fatchefs.co.za from the Makery rocked up with ice cream for everybody as a well-deserved treat for the hard labourers of the day.
We moved back to the Klip House where we were treated to hot dogs, ham & cheese rolls and nice cold, beverages.
A very proud moment I think for every Cub and our 2 Scouts that partook in the day. Every time they will drive pass the trees they will know that they planted those trees.
Thank you to all that participated in helping with successfull tree planting day.
Thank you Baloo for your report.
